Terms of Use
Effective date: 28 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Eric Mutema, an individual developer based in Kenya (“we”, “us”), who publishes the Versed app. By downloading or using Versed, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who can use Versed
- You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent in your country if it is higher.
- If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you.
Your account
- You can read without an account. You can sign in with Google to tie your subscription to your account.
- Keep access to your Google account secure. You are responsible for activity on your Versed account.
- You can delete your account at any time from the Account page in the app.
Versed Plus subscription
Reading Scripture in Versed is free. Versed Plus is an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks unlimited explanations and all reading plans.
- Plans: yearly at 39.99 US dollars per year, or monthly at 6.99 US dollars per month, or the equivalent price in your local currency as shown in the App Store or Google Play before you buy.
- Free trial: new subscribers to the yearly plan may get a 7-day free trial. Eligibility is decided by Apple or Google. We’ll try to remind you two days before the trial ends if you allow notifications, but the reminder is a courtesy: you remain responsible for cancelling in time.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase, or at the end of the free trial if you started one.
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Billing is handled by Apple or Google. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own refund policies. We cannot issue refunds directly.
- If we change the subscription price, Apple or Google will notify you as their rules require, and you can cancel before the new price applies.
Bible text and explanations
- The Bible translations in Versed (World English Bible, King James Version, Bible in Basic English and American Standard Version) are in the public domain.
- Explanations are generated by artificial intelligence. They aim to reflect mainstream Christian understanding, but they can be inaccurate, incomplete or reflect one tradition more than another. They are study aids, not authoritative teaching, and they are not pastoral, medical, legal or professional advice.
- Free users can request a limited number of new explanations each week. We may change these limits.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- access our servers or the explanation service other than through the app, or try to get around usage limits;
- use automated tools to scrape, copy or overload the service;
- reverse engineer, resell or redistribute the app, except where the law allows it;
- use the app to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights.
We may suspend access if you misuse the service.
Our app and content
- The app, its design, text (other than public domain Scripture) and software belong to us or our licensors.
- We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the rules of the App Store or Google Play.
Third-party services
- Sign-in is provided by Google through Supabase. Payments and app downloads are provided by Apple and Google under their own terms.
- Explanations are generated using Anthropic’s Claude.
Changes to the app and these terms
We may update the app, add or remove features, or update these terms. If we make a significant change to these terms, we’ll update the effective date and tell you in the app. If you keep using Versed after a change, the new terms apply.
Ending your use
You can stop using Versed at any time and delete your account. We may stop providing the app, with reasonable notice where possible. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, limits of liability and governing law) continue after your use ends.
Disclaimers
Versed is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that the app or explanations will always be available, accurate or error-free, or that your on-device progress will never be lost. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data or progress. Our total liability to you for any claim related to the app is limited to the amount you paid for the subscription in the 12 months before the claim, or 50 US dollars, whichever is greater. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.
Apple App Store users
If you downloaded Versed from the Apple App Store:
- These terms are between you and us only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price (if any). To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
- Apple is not responsible for handling any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, and consumer protection or privacy claims.
- Apple is not responsible for investigating or handling any claim that the app infringes someone else’s intellectual property rights.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, without affecting any mandatory consumer protection rights you have where you live. Disputes go to the courts of Kenya, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring them in your local courts.
